THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil, who is in remand, has been granted bail in two new cases filed against him. It was the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court that granted bail to Rahul. However, Rahul will remain in jail as he did not get bail in the case in which he was remanded. Meanwhile, the District Court will consider his bail application in the case registered in the name of the march held towards the DGP office on Wednesday.

Rahul was arrested from his house last Tuesday morning in connection with the clashes in the Secretariat march. He was remanded for two weeks and shifted to Poojappura district jail after the judicial magistrate court rejected his bail plea. Many leaders, including opposition leader VD Satheesan, visited Rahul in jail.

On December 20, the Youth Congress had organised a march to the Secretariat against the police and CPM for physically assaulting those who protested against the Nava Kerala Sadas. This march had turned violent. Opposition leader VD Satheesan is the first accused in the case registered following this. MLAs Shafi Parambil and M Vincent are the second and third accused respectively. Rahul is the fourth accused in the case.
