Expatriates under threat of employment fraud; UAE with strict action; 55 institutions in trouble

ABU DHABI: UAE with strict action against the organizations that did illegal recruitment. The Ministry of Human Resource and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has taken action against 55 institutions that had conducted recruitment last year without obtaining permission from the government. These include five social media accounts.

Violating firms were fined and ministry records were restricted. Social media accounts have been blocked. The Ministry also informed that some institutions have been subjected to public prosecution. Recruiting and temporary employment of domestic workers without the permission of the Ministry is illegal in the country. Violators of the law will be jailed for not less than one year and fined between two lakh dirhams and one million dirhams.

Khalil Ibrahim Khoori, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Resources, said that the ministry catches job scammers by finding advertisements and campaigns on social media and other platforms. Legal action will be taken and fines will be imposed against companies found to be engaged in such activities without proper licence.

Companies acting suspiciously will be inspected and if necessary referred to a public prosecution. Khalil Ibrahim Khoori also stated that expatriates and UAE residents should check whether the organization has a license before applying for a job to avoid being a victim of fraud. Violations can be reported to the ministry's call centre or complained about through the ministry's smart application.
