20,000 farmers and 2,000 tractors gear up for 'Delhi Chalo' march tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, farmers' protests are set to intensify in Delhi, putting the central government on alert. Thousands of farmers from northern states are gearing up for the Delhi Chalo March, reminiscent of a historic agitation three years ago. Intelligence reports indicate that over 20,000 farmers will converge on Delhi with more than 2,000 tractors alongside other modes of transportation such as cars, bikes, buses and metro trains.

Various farmer organizations, including Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are mobilizing for the protest. They demand the fulfillment of assurances made by the Centre to resolve the ongoing agitation despite unsuccessful talks between Union Ministers and farmers' leaders.

Farmers from states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh will join the march highlighting their grievances and pressing for their demands. Security measures have been heightened at Delhi borders with prohibitory orders in place to prevent overcrowding and the entry of unauthorized vehicles or weapons.

The farmers' key demands include legislation ensuring a minimum support price, implementation of the MS Swaminathan Commission report, pension for farmers and agricultural laborers, debt relief, withdrawal of cases against protesting farmers and justice for victims of incidents like the Lakhimpur Kheri farmer massacre.
