CPM announces its candidates for Lok Sabha elections; main goal of party is defeat of BJP, says MV Govindan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM on Tuesday announced its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It was CPM state secretary MV Govindan who announced the candidates during the press conference held at AKG Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. The party will be contesting from 15 constituencies in the Lok Sabha polls. MV Govindan said that the main goal of the party in the elections is the defeat of the BJP in the country.


One minister, one member of the Rajya Sabha, three MLAs, three district secretaries, one member of the Politburo, and four members of the central committee are on the list of CPM candidates. After suffering a crushing setback in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections the CPM hopes to reclaim the seats from the UDF by fielding strong candidates.

The list of CPM candidates is as follows:

  • Attingal: V Joy
  • Kollam: M Mukesh
  • Pathanamthitta: Thomas Isaac
  • Alappuzha: AM Ariff
  • Idukki: MP Joice George
  • Ernakulam: KJ Shine
  • Chalakudy: C Raveendranath
  • Palakkad: A Vijayaraghavan
  • Alathur: K Radhakrishnan
  • Ponnani: KS Hamsa (CPM independent candidate)
  • Malappuram: V Waseef
  • Kozhikode: Elamaram Kareem
  • Vadakara: KK Shailaja
  • Kannur: MV Jayarajan
  • Kasargod: MV Balakrishnan
