THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government's new brand of rice will arrive soon at ration shops as an alternative to 'Bharat' rice. The new brand is called Sabari K Rice. Food and Civil Supplies Minister GR Anil said that the preparations for this are being completed quickly.

The Minister stated that any card holder can buy 10 kg of rice from Supplyco outlets and Sabari K Rice will be of better quality than Bharat Rice. "The government assures that the low price will not affect the quality. The central government is providing rice given in ration shops at the rate of Rs 29 in the name of Bharat rice. If Bharat rice was given to the civil supplies department or Supplyco, it could have been made available to the people at a much lower price", Anil said.

"The Centre denied the people the opportunity they would have had through Bharat rice. Through Bharat rice, the central government has created a situation where rice has to be bought at a higher price," he added.
