THRISSUR: Actor and BJP leader Suresh Gopi said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will have to be implemented in Kerala as well. He also alleged that the Chief Minister was cheating people by saying that the CAA would not be implemented in the state. Suresh Gopi was speaking to the media during his election campaign in Thrissur.

"CAA has to be implemented one day. Now, the Centre has implemented it. Poverty alleviation is essential for the entire people of this country. CAA is essential for this. The Chief Minister is cheating people by saying that CAA will not be implemented in Kerala. It might benefit them in the elections. However, CAA has been implemented for the benefit of the country," Suresh Gopi said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on the implementation of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act yesterday. The notification was issued just ahead of the elections. Yesterday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan responded that the central government was trying to unsettle the country by notifying the provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act. The CM reiterated that there was no change in the stance that the Citizenship Amendment Act, which treats Muslim minorities as second-class citizens, will not be implemented in Kerala. He also said that the whole of Kerala will stand united against this communal law.
