AHMEDABAD: Five foreign students of Gujarat University were injured in a scuffle that broke out over offering namaz in the hostel room. The incident happened Saturday night at 11 pm in Block A of the university where foreign students stay.
Students from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka were offering namaz in their rooms when a group of people entered the hostel with protest slogans. They stopped the students and this led to a scuffle between the two groups.
10-15 outsiders trespassed into the hostel campus and created problems. When we were offering namaz, two or three of them entered the hostel building. They said we are not allowed to offer namaz. They pushed the security officer and attacked the students. They also attacked other foreign students who came to help us. The attackers barged into the rooms and destroyed the laptops and mobile phones, said a student.
Ahmedabad additional commissioner Neeraj Kumar Badgujar said a FIR has been registered in the incident. He said the attackers will be taken into custody soon. One of the students injured has been admitted in the hospital. The others were given first-aid and discharged.
