Alert issued in five districts in coming hours as rains likely to intensify, yellow alert in two places 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of isolated heavy rains in different parts of the state on Monday. The department has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur and Kasaragod, strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour and moderate rain at isolated places in other districts.

As per the department's rain forecast for the next five days, yellow alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod today. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

Gusty winds of 45 to 55 kmph at occasional 65 kmph and bad weather conditions are likely over Northeast Arabian Sea and Gujarat and Maharashtra coasts. Strong winds with gustiness of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 55 kmph are possible over Central Eastern Arabian Sea, adjoining Central Western Arabian Sea, Southeast Arabian Sea, Karnataka coast, Lakshadweep region, Gulf of Mannar and Sri Lankan coast.

Gusty winds of 35 to 45 kmph at occasional gusts to 55 kmph in South East Arabian Sea, Central Arabian Sea and North Arabian Sea are likely. Gusty winds with a speed of 45 to 55 kmph at occasional gusting to 65 kmph and bad weather are likely over North Andhra Pradesh Coast, Odisha Coast and West Bengal Coast.

Strong winds with speed of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional 65 kmph are likely over Southwest Arabian Sea, adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea, Central Arabian Sea, Somalia, Yemen and Oman coasts.
