LUCKNOW: In an unusual turn of events, a woman from Uttar Pradesh got married to her brother after a no-show from the groom. The said woman, Lakhimpur native Preeti Yadav, got married to her brother to get monetary benefits through the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme.

Those who get married through the marriage scheme would get benefits amounting to Rs 51,000. Of this, Rs 35,000 will be given to the bride's account, Rs 10,000 to buy gifts, and Rs 6000 for ceremony costs. The woman's marriage was fixed with an individual named Ramesh Yadav.

However, Ramesh skipped the wedding and Preeti married her brother to avoid losing money. After the information about this deceitful act came out, the police registered a case against the siblings and started an investigation.

Similar incidents had also been done in the past to cash in on the scheme. Minister of Social Welfare Asim Arun said that steps will be taken to mitigate such incidents from happening again.
