KOLKATA: In a rather alarming incident, an IndiGo aircraft rubbed the wings of an Air India Express that was parked at Kolkata airport on Wednesday. Hundreds of passengers narrowly escaped a calamity in the incident which exactly took place at 11 am on Wednesday.
IndiGo flight number 6E 6152 bound for Darbhanga in Bihar collided with an Air India Express flight awaiting runway clearance to depart for Chennai. The accident happened when the wing of the IndiGo plane hit the wing of Air India Express. In the sudden impact of the crash, the wingtip of the Air India Express broke down on the ground. The IndiGo flight also suffered some damage.
The Air India flight had 169 passengers while the IndiGo flight had 135 passengers. No one was injured in the accident. A spokesperson of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that a detailed investigation has been ordered into the incident. Both pilots of the IndiGo flight have been removed from duty. The DGCA said that the runway staff will also be questioned.
