Student's finger severed after cable gets entangled in bicycle handle

KOCHI: A student from Ernakulam's accident suffered a horrific injury after a cable got entangled in the handle of his bicycle. A finger of Abul Hassan, a resident of Karukappally, was severed in the accident. The finger was then surgically sutured.

A housewife was seriously injured in a similar accident in Kollam recently. The said scooter passenger, Sandhya (43), was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding lorry and caught in a broken K-phone cable.

The cable got stuck in the lorry which was carrying timber from Puthikavu to Chakkuvalli and then got wrapped around the woman's body and scooter. The scooter and the women was dragged for about twenty-five metres after which the scooter on her body. Sandhya's left shoulder was severely injured.

The accident happened when she was on her way home after coming to her husband Thulasidharan's workshop at Thazhava's Kochukuttipuram. Locals chased the lorry and stopped it. The locals had alleged that they had loaded too much timber. The cable caught the lorry as it was placed across the road without following the height limit.

Months ago, a housewife who was riding a scooter along with her husband in Kayamkulam got stuck in a low-lying cable and died.
