MALAPPURAM: In a shocking incident, a thief broke into a house in broad daylight and carried out a theft by tying a woman to a chair. The theft took place at the house of Vattamkulam native Ashokan in Edappal, Malappuram. According to the complaint lodged with the police, the thief stole gold ornaments worn by Ashokan's daughter-in-law Reshma after tying her to a chair. 15 sovereigns of gold were stolen by the thief. The incident took place at around 7 am today.
The thief entered the house wearing a mask and a glass. Reshma was sitting on a chair in front of the house when the thief broke into the house. The thief then tied Reshma to a chair and removed all the gold ornaments from her body. Reshma's husband and mother-in-law were present at the house when the incident took place. However, they did not know about it. As per the complaint, the mother-in-law was taking a bath and Reshma's husband was sleeping on the first floor when the theft took place.
When the mother-in-law came out after taking a bath, she found Reshma tied to the chair. Following this, she untied her. However, the thief had fled the spot by then. Following this, the family lodged a complaint with the police. The Changaramkulam police have launched an investigation based on the complaint. The police recorded the statements of the family members and the neighbours. The police said that the investigation was progressing.
