COIMBATORE: BJP and DMK workers clashed in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. The argument and fight took place over BJP candidate K Annamalai's campaign time exceeding the legal limit. The two sides clashed on Thursday night.
It is reported that seven people were injured in the clash. The Election Commission has allotted time till 10 pm for the election campaign. DMK alleges that Annamala's campaign continued even after this deadline for several days.
The trouble started when the DMK workers questioned the campaign that continued after 10 o'clock. The altercation turned violent and a large crowd thronged the place. Police immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The police said that they have started an investigation into the incident. Ganapathy Rajkumar, a DMK member and former Coimbatore mayor, is the candidate of the INDIA alliance in Coimbatore. DMK took over the sitting seat of CPM this time.
