KOZHIKODE: In the KCYM meeting of the Thamarassery Diocese, it has been decided that 'The Kerala Story' should not be screened. This decision will be officially announced after today's executive meeting. Earlier, it was announced that the film would be screened today in 120 KCYM units under the diocese.
KCYM has decided that the film should not be screened before the elections and should refrain from discussions related to this. There was a difference of opinion within the church regarding the film's screening.
The Diocese of Thamarassery made this decision after the Diocese of Idukki screened 'The Kerala Story'. The link to the movie was also shared during family gatherings in the parishes. The film was scheduled to be shown in appreciation of the Diocese of Idukki, which had screened the film and described it as exemplary.
George Vellakkakudi, Director of KCYM of Thamarassery Diocese, stated that there is no political motive behind the screening. The film is not banned. The decision not to screen it is not against Muslims, nor is it an attempt to undermine the Muslim community. The Church acknowledges that there are organizations and individuals who operate with radical ideologies. The film depicts a true story that occurred in Kerala. The Diocese of Idukki should not be singled out for screening it. He also clarified that it is important to raise awareness against agenda-driven narratives.
