Summer rains in central-southern districts in next five days; Yellow alert in two districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IMD has predicted summer rains in the central-southern districts of Kerala in the next five days. Indian Meteorological Department had earlier informed that there is a possibility of rain in seven districts of Kerala today. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts are likely to experience thundershowers. Meanwhile, IMD has warned that there is a possibility of summer rain in all the districts of Kerala on Thursday.

Meanwhile, IMD has also announced a yellow alert in various districts. Yellow alert and a possibility of isolated heavy rain have been forecast in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts on the 18th and 19th of this month. Heavy rain means rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. No special alert has been issued in other districts but there is a possibility of light rain, officials said.

High temperature warning continues in the state. The temperature in Palakkad, Thrissur and Kollam districts is expected to rise up to 39 degree Celsius. A yellow alert for high temperatures has also been issued in 12 districts. Palakkad, Thrissur and Kollam districts are also warned that the temperature may rise by two to four degrees Celsius above normal.
