NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely has joined the BJP. He joined the party at the BJP headquarters in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. He had resigned from the post of Congress president on April 28. Arvinder Singh Lovely had submitted his resignation to the party president Mallikarjun Kharge citing several reasons including the alliance of the Congress with the Aam Aadmi Party. Arvinder had pointed out that Congress is still in alliance with AAP despite the arrest of many Aam Aadmi Party workers in corruption cases.

He had announced that he was leaving only his position in the party and not the party and he will not join BJP. Along with Arvinder Singh Lovely, former Congress MLAs Naseeb Singh, Neeraj Basoya, Rajkumar Chauhan and former Youth Congress president Amit Malik also joined the BJP.

Neither the Delhi Congress leadership nor the AAP leadership expected Arvinder to join the BJP. Arvinder Singh Lovely had resigned from the post of Congress president in 2015 as well. He later joined the BJP in 2017 but returned to the Congress within months.
