Summer rains help reduce electricity consumption in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the state receiving summer rains, the electricity consumption fell below 100 million units for the first time in the last one and a half months. Power consumption on Friday was 98.8 million units. The power requirement has also come down to less than 5000 MW. The peak demand is 4976 MW. Electricity consumption reached 100 million units in the first week of last month. It was recorded above 110 million units and continuously broke the all-time record. Average consumption on May 7 was 5607 MW. But on May 8, the day with widespread rain, it was 561 MW less than the previous day. Electricity consumption has decreased from Thursday to yesterday.
