Rains to intensify in state for next five days; alert in various districts today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the rains will intensify in the state for the next five days. A yellow alert has been announced in various districts from today till May 17. Today, a yellow alert has been issued in nine districts, including Thiruvananthapuram.

The districts are:

  • 13-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad
  • 14-05-2024: Pathanamthitta
  • 15-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta
  • 16-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Idukki
  • 17-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta

A possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain refers to rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

During the next three hours, isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph. The IMD also stated that isolated places in Kannur and Kasargod districts are likely to receive light rainfall in the coming hours.
