LUCKNOW: Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy who voted 8 times for the BJP candidate in Farrukhabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The arrested boy Rajan Singh is the son of a BJP worker. The police took action after the selfie video of the boy casting multiple votes for the BJP candidate during the fourth phase went viral on social media. Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has recommended to the Election Commission to conduct repolling at the polling station concerned in the incident. Rinwa stated that he also gave instructions to suspend the officials who were present at the polling booth and take disciplinary action against them.
The Congress and the Samajwadi Party had come forward urging the Election Commission to take action after the video of the boy casting multiple votes for BJP candidate Rajput in the Farukhabad constituency went viral. The Congress and SP Chairman Akhilesh Yadav had shared the video on X.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP was trying to rob democracy by putting pressure on the government system.
