Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar brought to flat using honeytrap method; girlfriend of Aktar Usman Shah under custody

NEW DELHI: Woman taken into police custody regarding the murder of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata. According to the national media, Shilanti Rahman, a native of Bangladesh and the girlfriend of Aktar Usman Shah, the main accused in the case, is in custody. Akhtar Usman, who is believed to have given a quotation to kill the MP, is a US citizen of Bangladesh origin. The MP was killed in his rented house in Kolkata's Newtown area. Shilanthi was also in Kolkata when Anwarul was killed. Police say that she returned to Dhaka on May 15. It is also reported that she returned with the hired killer.

According to the police, Shilanti was used as a honeytrap to bring Anwarul Azim to Kolkata from Bangladesh. Police have recovered CCTV footage of a woman and two men are seen leaving the flat with two large boxes. More footage is being checked.

A person was arrested by the Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the incident. CID officials said the hired killer, a native of Barakpur in Khulna district of Bangladesh, was arrested. The accused was staying illegally in Mumbai. The accused reached Mumbai from Kolkata two months ago on the instructions of Akhtar Usman, who is believed to have given the quotation to kill Anwarul. He was staying in a hotel near the airport. Akhtar Usman gave the killer a quotation of five crore rupees to kill Anwarul. CID also informed that a portion of this was handed over to the arrested killer.

Akhtar Usman was a close friend of the slain MP. Bangladeshi media have reported that they used to smuggle gold together. Anwarul Azim Anar, who was killed, is a member of the Awami League party. Anwarul has been missing from Kolkata since May 13. The news that he was killed was released by Bangladesh Home Minister Asadusman Khan.
