Woman, husband arrested for robbing gold ornaments after tying down grandmother

KOLLAM: A woman and her husband has been arrested for robbing gold ornaments after tying down her grandmother inside the house. The arrested has been identified as Parvathy (24) of Parvathy Mandiram in Uliyakovil Janakiyanagar 40 and Sarath (28) of Padinjattathil in Umayanallur's Pacheri.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon. Yashoda's (85) earring and bangle were robbed by the couple. Parvathy and Sarath tied Yashoda to a chair and stuffed a cloth in her mouth. Rs 25,000 kept in the cupboard was also taken away. No one else was home at the time. They had come to stay with their mother and grandmother for a few days.

The accused were caught by police officials from Kazhakoottam railway station while trying to cross into Tamil Nadu. Thiruvananthapuram City Police and Kazhakootam and Thumba Police were there to assist. Cash from the sale of gold was recovered from the accused. Sarath is an accused in a case registered under the POCSO Act and several theft cases. They used to live a life of luxury with stolen money.

On the instructions of ACP Anuroop, a team consisting of SIs Diljith, Asha Chandran, ASIs Nizamuddin, Bindu, GSI Nasaruddin and CPOs Anu, Shefiq, Shaiju, Ajayan and Andrews, led by Kollam East Police Station Inspector P Harilal, arrested the accused. Both were remanded.
