MUMBAI: Doctor lost lakhs to an online fraud believing a deep fake video of Mukesh Ambani. KH Patil (54), an Ayurvedic doctor from Andheri, was the victim of the AI scam. Fraudsters created Mukesh Ambani's video with the help of AI to promote a fake share trading company. The doctor who believed this lost Rs 7.1 lakh.

The doctor first saw Mukesh Ambani's deep fake video through Instagram. It was a video of Mukesh Ambani advertising for Rajeev Sharma Trade Group, promising high returns. The doctor, who believed the ad, searched on Google and found that the company had offices in London and Mumbai.

The doctor saw the company's international connections in Mukesh Ambani's video and decided to invest in the company. He then invested money in the company last May and June. Initially the investment was profitable. The doctor came to know that 30 lakhs reached his account. He realized that he had been scammed when he tried to withdraw the money in July. Then he filed a complaint with the Andheri police.

Between May 28 and June 10, the doctor deposited Rs 7.1 lakh in 16 accounts. The police registered a case and started investigation. Police found that Ambani's deepfake video was used to promote trading education programs even before.
