THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Accountant Vijayaraj, who was under suspension in the Kazhakootam sub-treasury fraud case, has been arrested. The arrest was made in a case of embezzlement of Rs.5 lakhs without the knowledge of the account holders.
The scam came to light about a week and a half ago. Still, the non-arrest of those behind it led to a big controversy. The issue was raised even in the Assembly. Six people were already suspended in the incident. The police said that they will release more information related to the fraud after taking the accused's statement.
According to the currently released information, the money has been withdrawn from the accounts of those who have not withdrawn money for a long time and those who have invested for years. A cheque not belonging to the account holder has been used for this purpose. First, a scam of two lakh rupees came out. However, during the investigation of the treasury, it was found that a fraud of Rs. 15 lakhs had taken place. With this, six people were suspended.
The police is investigating whether only Vijayaraj or someone else is behind the scam. Three cases have been registered in this regard.
