17-year-old dies of electrocution after climbing atop train

KOCHI: A 17-year-old boy, who climbed on top of a goods train after accepting the challenge of his friends, died after suffering electric shock from power line above the track. The deceased has been identified as Antony Jose, a BBA student, of Vaimelil (Kambivelikkakaath) Veedu near Amrita Hospital in Edappally. He suffered 85% burns and was rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved. He got on top of a train carrying petroleum products that was stopped at Edappally station yesterday evening when he was electrocuted,

Hearing the screams of friends, the people nearby rushed him to a private hospital. He was also admitted to the burn ICU before succumbing to his burns at around 8 p.m.

As per Elamakkara Police, Antony and others had gone to buy a cake for the birthday of their friend. The friends first crossed over to the other side of the track by going under the train. Antony climbed to the top of the train to get down to the other side and was thrown away after suffering electric shock.

Antony Jose is the only son of Jose Antony, a former employee of XL Glass Factory in Alappuzha and Soumya, a nurse at Lourde Hospital. The body will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem on Monday. The RPF has started an investigation into the incident.
