Family of four trapped in Chittoor River rescued; minister compliments rescue workers who successfully completed mission

PALAKKAD: Four people who were stuck in the middle of the Chittoor river after the water rose, were rescued. An elderly mother, father and two older sons who were bathing in the river got stuck in the middle of the river. Due to heavy rains, the Moolathara regulator was opened and the river was filled with water. With this, the four got stuck on the rock in the middle of the river.

The incident happened this afternoon. After getting the information, the police and fire brigade reached the spot and started the rescue operation. After making them put on life jackets, the four people were tied to the rope and brought to the banks in a very adventurous way. There was heavy current in the river. Minister K Krishnankutty reached the spot and coordinated the rescue operation. The four people were stuck in the middle of the river for two hours. The minister said that the ones who were trapped in the river were natives of Mysore. They had come for work. The minister complimented the rescue workers who completed the adventurous mission.

Rains continue to be heavy in Palakkad. IMD said that six districts including Palakkad are likely to experience moderate rain at isolated places and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph in the next three hours. Orange alert has been issued today in Palakkad. Heavy rains also caused widespread damage in the district.

After the current depression formed over the Bay of Bengal and over Odisha weakens, it is likely to re-form as a fresh depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal by July 19. As a result of this, the monsoon in the Arabian Sea is likely to remain active and there is a possibility of widespread rain in Kerala, the Indian Meteorological Department informs.
