Four stranded in Chittoor River rescued

PALAKKAD: Four people stranded in the middle of Chittoor River has been rescued. Three men and a woman were stranded while bathing in the river. Four were brought safely to the shore. Water rose in the Chittoor River following the opening of the Moolathara Regulator. With this, the four got stuck on the rock in the middle of the river.


The police and the fire brigade reached the spot knowing the incident and engaged in the rescue operations. The four were tied to a rope and brought back to the shore after making them wear the life jacket. The daring rescue operation of the fire brigade was during the strong undercurrents. Minister K Krishnankutty reached the spot and coordinated the rescue operations.

The health condition of the four is satisfactory. The four were from Tamil Nadu. People usually bathe and wash clothes in the place. Water was normal. However, after opening the shutter of the dam, the water level suddenly rose. They immediately stood on a high place in the middle of the river. They were later rescued.
