'Raped doctor's corpse'; Gruesome details from Kolkata PG doctor's murder

NEW DELHI: The principal of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, Principal Dr Sandeep Ghosh, resigned after facing uproar over the ghastly rape and murder of a PG doctor.

“The victim was like my daughter. I’m not being spared on social media and the cyber-attack on me is going beyond all limits. I decided to resign after considering myself as a parent. Let this not happen to anyone" responded Sandeep Ghosh.

Due to the strike of doctors and PG students, the patients coming to the hospital are also facing hardship. However, the protesters demand a magisterial inquiry into the tragedy and are hell-bent on continuing the protest. Junior doctors were on duty in the emergency department for the last three days. But with the protest intensifying, they too have decided to join their colleagues in support.

The victim’s body was found half-naked inside the seminar hall of the college on Friday morning. The autopsy report confirmed brutal rape which ignited protests all over the country. Accused Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer of the police, was remanded in police custody till August 23. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had responded that the accused would be given the death penalty. Meanwhile, the BJP demanded that the government hand over the case to CBI.

The discovery of the Bluetooth headset from the seminar hall and the CCTV footage were crucial in arresting the accused. The incident took place between four and six in the morning.

While scrutinizing the CCTV visuals, Sanjay Roy, who walked to the hospital premises during the time caught the attention of police. However, what shocked the officials was the missing of Roy’s Bluetooth set which was earlier found fixed to his ears. This finding turned pivotal in arresting the accused.

Police later summoned Sanjay, and when interrogated, started giving conflicting statements. The Bluetooth headset was found previously connected to Sanjay’s phone, thus collapsing the accused’s meticulously built cards of lies. Sanjay was heavily drunk at the time of the incident and police recovered folders of bizarre adult videos on the accused’s mobile phone. On August 9, the police questioned all those police officials on duty and got to know that the accused shared dinner with other policemen on duty on the day of the crime.

The Police Commissioner said that the accused returned after the crime and went to sleep without even caring to change his dress. After getting up in the morning, he cleaned the blood stains from the clothes and took a bath. The victim went through brutal torture and suffered serious injuries in her private parts. It is confirmed that the accused raped the victim only after the murder.
