KALPETTA: A youth was killed in an attack by a wild elephant in Wayanad. The dead is Manu of Noolpuzha Kappad Unnathi. Manu’s body was found in the paddy fields adjacent to the forest.
He is believed to have been attacked by the elephant while returning from the shop last evening. Forest department officials have reached the spot after knowing about the incident. His wife, who was missing was later found and this created a lot of tension. She was later found and she is presently in the police station. Many including the officials had intensified a search for his wife. The locals are not allowing to shift Manu’s body from there. Noolpuzha is an area where the disturbance of wild elephants is rampant.
A woman was killed in an attack by a wild elephant in Idukki the other day. She is Sophia Ismail (45) of Nellivila Puthan House. Sophia was attacked by a wild elephant at TR&T Estate. Sophia had gone to bathe in the stream. She was found dead in a search after she did not return after a long time.
Sophia's house is located near the forest boundary. The collector has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to Sophia's family. The collector has also assured job for her daughter. Sophia is the second to be killed in a wild elephant attack in the district this month. Vimalan (57 of Chafakkad Kudi, was killed in an attack on February 6 at Marayoor in Idukki.
