Rampant destruction as strong rains lashes across state, power disconnected in various areas, cracks in sea bridge at Valiyathura

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Large scale destruction of public property was witnessed in the heavy rains which lashed across the state. Trees fell upon vehicles. Electricity got disconnected in many areas in the district for more than 12 hours. Many homes in Kuttanad got submerged under water.

Cracks were formed on the sea bridge in Valiyathura. A portion of the bridge has gone down. Power connections were disrupted in many areas of the district and KSEB authorities are trying hard to fix the disruptions in power connection. The electricity gate was closed anticipating further problems. Sea has turned violent in the coastal areas of Kollam district. 10 relief camps were opened in the district. About 59 people from 209 camps are there in the Kollam district alone. The situation in Alappat panchayat in the Kollam district is precarious as violent sea waves have lashed the panchayat.

Waterlogging has been witnessed in many areas in Kochi city. Valanjambalam, Jose Junction and south have been submerged underwater. The regulator shutters of Trittala Veliyankallu will be opened today. It has been decided to open as water levels in Bharathapuzha has increased. Authorities have warned that people in nearby areas must be vigilant.
