CPM confused over HC’s verdict on minority scholarship; Baby and CM rejects minister’s statement

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM is confused over the HC’s credit on minorities scholarship. The court has struck down the proportion of 80:20 in which the scholarship benefits were distributed among various minority communities in the state. M A Baby said that the allegation of Muslim communities taking away 80 per cent of the scholarship benefits is baseless. Thus the opinion of M A Baby, who is a CPM Polit Bureau member has rejected the stand taken by minister M V Govindan on the issue. CPM’s available secretariat meeting will discuss the issue in detail tomorrow.

M A Baby has further said that when the UDF government was in power, they included the additional provision of 20% of scholarship that should be reserved to backward Christian communities while implementing the recommendations of Paloli Muhammed Kutty. “Therefore the allegation that instead of equally distributing the scholarship benefits, giving 80 per cent of the scholarship amount to Muslims alone is utterly baseless and false,” he said.

“The state already has different scholarship schemes for other forward and backward communities in the state. Some persons with malicious intentions are trying to create a communal divide in the state on this issue. Such people are against the general interests of society. The government will find an appropriate solution to the problems which could come up in the wake of the high court’s verdict,” M A Baby said.

M B Baby’s stand rejects minister M V Govindan’s statement that he will implement the high court verdict. Chief Minister has also rejected M V Govindan’s statement during the press conference held on Saturday.
