ED to probe Kodakara hawala case, begins preliminary investigation

KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started a preliminary investigation into the Kodakara hawala case in which allegations were levelled against several BJP leaders.

Justice Mary Joseph sought a report from the ED on a petition filed by Salim Madavoor, national president of the Lok Tantric Youth League, who alleged that the ED was not taking action in the case even though the offense came under the Money Laundering Act.

So far, the ED has argued that the case falls under the purview of the Income Tax Department and does not fall within its purview. However, the ED must conduct a preliminary inquiry and submit a report within ten days of the court's request.
