THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: During the review meeting, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the authorities to give the first dose of the Covid vaccine to all those above 40 years of age by July 15. About 50 lakh people over the age of 45 are yet to receive the first dose. Kerala will receive 38 lakh doses this month. 50,000 doses will reach the state on Sunday.
Meanwhile, more than one crore people in the state have received Covid vaccination. As of Friday, the state is said to have given the first dose of the vaccine to 78,75,797 people and the second dose to 21,37,389 people. Health Minister Veena George said that while many states have wasted the vaccine, the nurses in Kerala are carrying out their mission without wasting a single drop. Vaccination started on January 16th.
The Chief Minister said that all the departments will work hand in hand with the support of the people to prevent the third wave. The tender process for 35 centrally approved PSA Oxygen Plants has been completed. It will be operational by October.
Review meeting decisions
As part of the preparations to prevent a third wave, gene sequencing will be done in cases of breakthrough infections and infections among children to deal with the third wave. Results of the genetic sequencing will be analysed on a weekly basis.
The food kits for June will be ready by the 10th of this month. The kits will be provided to 85 lakh people from June 15.
