THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting chaired by the health minister decided to increase vaccination in the state as there is a possibility of a third wave of Covid.
Health Minister Veena George has directed that at least one dose of the vaccine be given to everyone above 18 by the end of September. A clear plan will be prepared in each district to strengthen the vaccination drive. The meeting noted that vaccination levels were low during the holidays and it should be strengthened in the coming days.
The meet also decided to increase the number of Covid tests in the state. A decision has been taken to conduct at least two lakh tests daily. Taking into account the transmission of the disease, a decision was taken to make strict the contact list and to check all those who attended the public functions if they fall ill. It was also directed that those with symptoms and those coming into contact should undergo Covid test.
The meet assessed that the state currently has sufficient reserves of oxygen and can rely on Karnataka if required. Intensive care units in hospitals will be further strengthened. ICU facilities for infants are also being fully set up.
