Girl who committed suicide in Peermede was sexually abused; neighbour arrested

IDUKKI: Police have arrested a youth in connection with the suicide of a 17-year-old girl in Karadikuzhi, Peermede. The arrested has been identified as Karadikuzhi native Anand, the girl's neighbour. The post-mortem report of the girl revealed that she was sexually abused.

Though the police had received information that Anand had molested the girl, Anand had not confessed to this during earlier interrogation. The truth finally came to light when the DNA samples of three suspects, including Anand, were examined.

The body of the girl, who went missing on December 17 last year, was found the next day in a neighbour's pool. The accused has been booked under various IPC sections as also the POCSO Act.
