Isolated heavy rains likely in state; Orange alert in eight districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Isolated heavy rains will continue in the state today and tomorrow. The Met Office warned of thunderstorms and strong winds. Orange alert has been sounded in eight districts. The orange alert was issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Idukki and Wayanad. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea till Saturday.

Heavy rains are continuing in Kozhikode. There were landslides and flash floods in some parts of the hilly areas. Authorities warned of a possible landslide on the Thottilpalam-Wayanad route. Journey through the Kuttyadi Pass has been restricted.

There was landslide at Adivaram in Thamarassery. Many homes and shops were flooded. Twelve families have been evacuated to Kavilumpara. There was a landslide at Vayalil in Panangad. Eight families in the area were evacuated.
