KANNUR: Kannur University Vice-Chancellor Gopinath Raveendran has received death threats from Maoists. The letter, which was from a group claiming to be 'Kabini Dal', contained harsh references. They threatened to cut off VC's head and place it on the university campus.
Another warning in the letter is that the appointment of Priya Varghese as Associate Professor in the Malayalam section will have serious repercussions. It was found that the letter was posted from the post box near Kannur Civil Station. The letter was posted today. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The state government and the governor were at loggerheads over the reappointment of Gopinath Raveendran as Kannur VC. The High Court had upheld the arguments of the state government, though the governor had come forward to show that the appointment was made through malpractice and violation of law.
