RAIPUR: 7 Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in the forest on the Narayanpur-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh. The gunfight broke out at around 11 am when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation. Officials said that those who were killed were wearing Maoist uniforms. Weapons including seven guns were recovered.
A joint team of the District Reserve Guard and the Special Task Force of the State Police was conducting the operation based on intelligence that there was a Maoist presence in the forest. The police said that the operation is ongoing in the area. 12 Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh so far this year. 12 Maoists were killed in Bijapur region on May 10.
