CHENNAI: Kamal Haasan's party Makkal Needhi Maiam(MNM) lost the local body elections in Tamil Nadu without winning a single seat. At the same time, party president Kamal Haasan said that voters should not be proud of defeating honest people and he would not accept the verdict. "Saying that the verdict is acceptable, is a formality and I do not want to do that. We will continue our work for the people," he said.
In Tamil Nadu local body elections, DMK alliance won the elections. The DMK won all the 21 corporations in the state, including Coimbatore, the stronghold of the AIADMK. They won 133 out of 138 municipalities and 437 out of 489 urban panchayats. DMK's allies Congress, CPI, CPM, MDMK, VCK and Muslim League also benefited from the elections.
The main opposition AIADMK has not been able to retain power in any of the corporations. They got majority only in three municipalities and 14 urban panchayats. BJP contested alone and won more seats compared to last elections. BJP won a majority in two urban panchayats.
