NEDUMKANDAM: A nine-year-old boy with epilepsy died after food got trapped in his lungs while vomiting. The deceased has been identified as Santhosh, son of Nedumkandam native Karthik and Devi. Santhosh had fallen sick on Friday after eating porotta. He was taken to a private hospital on Saturday as he continued to vomit.

Doctors said that the boy's stomach was swollen when he was brought to the hospital. The abdominal pain reduced after he was given first aid. By 10.30 am, his blood pressure had dropped and he was later pronounced dead, the hospital officials said. The body will be handed over to relatives today after the postmortem. Santhosh had been undergoing treatment for epilepsy for a long time.
