KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has granted bail to senior leader and Poonjar former MLA P C George in the hate speech case. George is a former MLA and his health condition was taken into account by the court while granting him bail. He was asked not to repeat the hate speeches and appear when asked by the investigating officers. The court also ruled that there was no need to keep him in custody continuously.
The prosecution had earlier opposed granting bail to P C George. The prosecution argued that such cases were a danger to society and that anticipatory bail should not be granted. The DGP told the court that he was concerned that P C George would commit a similar crime.
The court had yesterday cancelled the bail granted to George for violating the bail conditions granted by the court during his controversial speech at the Hindu Maha Sammelan in Thiruvananthapuram. He was arrested shortly afterwards and taken to the capital, where he was produced before a judge's chamber. He was then remanded for 14 days.
