Kills college professor and dumps body in jungle; gym trainer friend arrested

PANAJI:A gym trainer has been arrested in connection with the murder of a college professor in Goa. 36-year old Gauri Achari, a professor in Khandola Government College was killed by friend Gaurav Bidre, a native of Maharashtra. Gaurav trains the Under-19 Indian cricket team and the Anti-Terrorist Squad.

He committed the murder out of anger as Achari discontinued the friendship. In 2021, Achari searched the internet and found Bidre's address. And then started training under him. They became friends. Later, when Achari decided not to continue the friendship, Bidre tried to meet her several times. But she did not agree.

Achari's mother complained to the police that she was missing since she went to college on Thursday. An investigation by Old Goa police later found that Achari had spoken to Bidre on the phone before she went missing. So, the police questioned him. But he said he did not know about her disappearance. When he was brought to the police station, he confessed that he had smothered her to death.

He arrived at the car parking near Achari's house on Thursday evening and got into the car. Then there was a quarrel between the two. When Achari tried to get out of the car by opening the door, he pulled her inside, closed the door and strangled her. He then drove off and shifted the body to his own car parked in Corlim. The body was later dumped in the jungle near the Old Goa Bypass. He was taken into police custody and remanded for 10 days.
