Moral policing: School students thrashed in Palakkad; One arrested

PALAKKAD: A man has been arrested in connection with a moral policing incident in Mannarkkad school. The accused has been identified as Siddique, a native of Karimba. According to the police, more arrests will be made in connection with the incident.

Students of Karimba High School were beaten up for gathering at the bus stop in Mannarkkad, Palakkad. After school, five girls and five boys were sitting together at a nearby bus stop. At the time, a person who came there saw the girls and boys together and interrogated them, abused the students and dared to beat them. On questioning his behaviour, the man, along with some locals, thrashed us in front of our teacher, said the students.

Similar incidents have taken place in the state before as well. It is common for locals to abuse students, if they find girls and boys sitting together. But the locals claim that the students sit at the bus stop till late even after the school hours and they had only questioned them in the regard.
