Three killed in Pathanamthitta as car falls into canal, vehicle floats for 15 minutes

PATHANAMTHITTA: A car fell into a canal at Vennikulam in Pathanamthitta. All three passengers in the car have died. They have been identified as Chandy Mathew of Kumaly and his two daughters Feba Chandy and Blessy Chandy.

The accident happened Monday morning at 7 am.

It is reported that the car floated in the water for nearly fifteen minutes. The Maruti Alto car of Thiruvananthapuram registration (KL 01 AJ 2102) met with the accident. Reports said the car fell into the canal while trying to overtake the private bus in front.

The accident happened when they were on their way to drop Feba Chandy doing OET course in Mavelikkara. Their decision was to pick Feba’s friend from Thiruvalla. The car met with the accident before picking her.

The three were taken out from the car by a team led by the locals. The bodies are kept at the Kumbanadu Hospital. Chandy Mathew was a pastor.

Heavy rains continue in the state. Orange alert has been issued in seven districts including Pathanamthitta. Yellow alert has been announced in five districts. It has been predicted that heavy rain is expected till Thursday. Meteorologists have warned that there may be minor flash floods as there will be continuous rain with thunder and lightning.
