PATHANAMTHITTA: Police have arrested Bengal native Bimal Nag Benshi (24) under the POCSO Act for abducting a 17-year-old girl from Bengal and locking her up in a small room for nearly a week. He was produced in court and remanded. Bimal Nag Benshi is a worker in an iron shop in Omallur.
Bimal Nag Benshi was in love with the girl. He abducted her out of Bengal on July 22. Following this, an organization in West Bengal filed a missing complaint with the Raiganj police and the National Child Protection Commission. The child, who was found by the Alappuzha Crime Branch, is now kept in a shelter home of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The girl had revealed to the authorities that the youth had molested her.
Although the CWC had demanded to file a case under POCSO and conduct an investigation, the police did not file a case at first. This was reported by Kerala Kaumudi last Sunday. Following this, the police recorded the statement of the girl, conducted a medical examination and registered a case against the youth.
The police have initiated action to hand over the girl to her parents.
