KOCHI: The High Court on Friday will hear the plea demanding a CBI probe into the killing of his brother and journalist KM Basheer. The petition will be heard by Justice Ziyad Rehman.

The petition was filed by Basheer's brother KM Abdu Rahman, a native of Tirur in Malappuram. The petition says that the prosecution and the police are helping IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman while there is evidence against the accused.

It is stated in the petition that on the day of the incident, Basheer saw Sriram and Wafa, the second accused in the case, in a suspicious situation near a coffee shop, and recorded this on his mobile phone. Sriram tried to take possession of the phone but failed. Abdu Rahman's allegation is that he deliberately killed Basheer by hitting him with a car.

The petition states that Basheer's mobile phone has not been recovered yet and this is proof that there was an attempt to save the accused. On August 3, 2019, KM Basheer was hit by a car driven by Sriram Venkitaraman, killing him.
