SC Chief Justice N V Ramana retires today, SC live-streams proceedings in a first

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Chief Justice N V Ramana will retire today. He retires with the beginning of another history. The Supreme Court will livestream the proceedings for the first time. The live streaming began with Justice Ramana delivering the final judgment.

The farewell function will be after pronouncing the verdicts. The move to start live streaming through a separate platform was already initiated. The trials of cases other than rape cases, divorce cases, and closed court cases can be watched live by the public.

N V Ramana succeeded Justice S A Bobde as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on April 24. Ramana was born on August 27 in 1957 at Ponnavaram village of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh.

He was enrolled as an advocate on February 10 in 1983. He was appointed as a Judge in Andhra Pradesh High Court on June 27, 2000. He was acting Chief Justice from March 10 to May 20, 2013. He was appointed as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on September 2, 2013. He became a Supreme Court judge on February 17, 2014. The next chief justice is U U Lalit.
