THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Travelling to hilly and coastal areas in the capital city has been banned following warning of heavy rains. A car has been washed away in Vithura due to heavy rain. Three in the car have escaped. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that the district is likely to receive heavy rainfall of more than 204.4 mm in 24 hours’ tomorrow. In this situation, a red alert has been announced tomorrow.
The district collector informed that people living in low-lying areas, river banks and hilly areas prone to landslides should be extremely cautious as the rains continue in the areas that have received heavy rainfall in the past few days. Meantime, heavy rain has been predicted in the state tomorrow. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, red alert has been issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki.
Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam are on orange alert. A yellow alert has been sounded in the remaining seven districts tomorrow. The weather department has warned that there will be heavy rain in the state for the next two days. Orange alert has been declared in eight districts for Uthradam. Orange alert is in Palakkad, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur. Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Thiruvonam day. Meteorological Centre said there will be very heavy rain in a very short time.
