THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After two year hiatus, the state capital witnessed a week-long Onam celebrations and cultural procession. Huge crowd gathered on both sides of the road starting from Manaveeyam veedhi in Vellayambalam to East Fort to witness the procession on Monday. The procession included vivid glimpses at the diverse artistic and cultural heritage of the country and the State, featuring spectacular floats and a variety of classical and folk traditions.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the procession in Vellayambalam at 5 pm. CM watched the Onam procession at a special pandal set up in front of the University College along with his family members. His wife Kamala, daughter Veena, son-in-law and minister Mohammad Riyas and grandson Ishan were present on the stage.
Tamil Nadu Minister of IT Mano Thangaraj, Ministers K Rajan, VN Vasavan, V Sivankutty, GR Anil, Antony Raju, Ahamed Devarkovil, K Krishnankutty, J Chinchu Rani, P Prasad, Shashi Tharoor MP, MLAs and CPM State Secretary MV Govindan also attended the event. Minister Mohammad Riays inaugurated the closing ceremony at Nishagandhi. Actor Asif Ali was the chief guest.
