Congress chief’s post is a big responsibility, no change in stand, says Rahul

KOCHI: Rahul Gandhi is firm in his earlier stand in connection with the post of congress chief. He talked to the media during Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kochi. He kept mum on questions whether he would contest polls. Asked about the raid against the Popular Front, he replied that it was not intended to promote any kind of communalism.

‘Bharat Jodo Yatra is a big hit. The people of Kerala are giving great support. It is very motivating. The purpose of the trip is to unite the nation. Unemployment is increasing uncontrollably in the country today. It is not only a problem in Kerala but of the entire country. Apart from this, inflation is also rising uncontrollably. The journey began with all these things in mind. All these three things are interrelated behind BJP and RSS promoting communalism. People of the country have started to realize this,’ said Rahul.

Why are you touring Kerala for so many days, when asked why the length of the journey has been reduced in states including Uttar Pradesh ruled by the BJP, he replied that the journey is from one end of India to the other.

It is not a matter of which states the Bharat Jodo Yatra passes through. The result of the journey should be reflected in each state. The goal is to travel from one end of India to the other. The route of the trip is prepared accordingly. The number of days in UP is less but the yatra does not pass through Bihar, West Bengal or Gujarat. The aim of the trip is from one end of India to the other. It is impossible to walk tens of kilometres. Therefore, there will be some restrictions in the travel routes. No one should worry about things in Uttar Pradesh. We have a clear vision of what needs to be done in Uttar Pradesh, said Rahul.

The post of Congress President is a post aimed at the development of India. Being the President of the Congress is a big responsibility. It is not just a post. A person with ideas and vision should come to that position. The question of whether I will run for the presidency or not is an attempt to divert attention from everything. I am not ready to fall into that trap. There is no change in the earlier stand.

Asked why the state government is not criticized, the leadership here clearly knows the affairs of Kerala. They will do it, replied Rahul.
