KOZHIKODE: Senior Congress leader and former minister Aryadan Muhammad (87) passed away. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode for two weeks. In addition to heart disease, he also had respiratory problems. He was admitted to the hospital after this. He was able to talk until the other day. His health condition deteriorated later.
An end to seventy years long political career has now come to an end. He reached the assembly from Nilambur eight times. He was a minister in three cabinets. In 1980, he served as labour and forest minister in the Nayanar Cabinet, Labor and tourism minister in the A K Antony Cabinet and in 2011 as the power minister in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet. He had led various trade unions.
He leaves behind his wife P V Mariyumma and children Ansar Begum, Aryadan Shaukath, Khadeeja, Dr Riyas Ali and daughter and son-in-laws. Dr Hashim Javed, Mumtaz Begum, Dr Ummar and Simi Jalal. He will be laid to rest in Nilambur tomorrow morning at 9 am.
